IPL Auction 2024: For Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, SRH and KKR wreck havoc

Highlights of the IPL 2024 Auction: The Australian fast bowlers who won the World Cup were purchased for an incredible Rs 20.50 crore and Rs 24.75 crore, respectively.

The two greatest purchases in the Indian Premier League 2024 auction were Mitchell Starc (purchased for Rs. 24.75 crore) and Pat Cummins (purchased for Rs. 20.5 crore). Both Australians broke the record for the most expensive purchase made at an IPL auction. Since 2015, Starc has not participated in the IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders decided to break the bank for him nonetheless, putting in a winning bid of Rs 24.75 crore. Before Starc overcame him, Sunrisers Hyderabad paid a record Rs 20.5 crore to select Australia cricket skipper Cummins.

Daryl Mitchell, meanwhile, was purchased by the Chennai Super Kings for an extravagant Rs 14 crore. Harshal Patel of India was the third-most expensive choice at Rs 11.75 crore while the breakout star of the recent Cricket World Cup, Rachin Ravindra, was snapped up by CSK for Rs 1.8 crore.

Steven Smith, Josh Hazlewood, and Jimmy Neesham went unsold as did India’s Karun Nair. The names of 332 players went under the gavel at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai on Tuesday as the 10 franchises put finishing touches to their squads before the upcoming season.

After Mitchell Starc went for Rs 24.75 crore and Pat Cummins fetched Rs 20.5 crore in the IPL 2024 auctions, questions rose about overseas players’ salary. While R Ashwin wondered if it’s alright for overseas players, especially Australians, to target mini-auctions where big money is splurged, Anil Kumble said it was time to have a fixed overseas cap on overseas players.
